The Medical Assistant ensures the smooth operation of the clinic at the birth center on a daily basis, providing friendly, warm, and safe care to all clients and guests that enter the birth center.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Previous clinical or customer service work experience
Certification or previous training as Medical Assistant or Nurse Tech preferred
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple demands at once
Intermediate proficiency with Google products (Docs, Sheets, Slides), copy machine
Demeanor is energetic, welcoming, and engaged when communicating with clients
Active listening skills
Complete tasks safely, accurately, and efficiently as delegated by the Birth Assistant and Certified Nurse Midwife

Reports to Clinical DirectorRESPONSIBILITIES:
Fostering Positive Birth Center Experience:
Create welcoming, inclusive, personalized experience for all clients and visitors at the birth center
Provide competent and respectful communication and interaction to all families regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, or disabilities
Clinic Support:
Assist 2-3 Certified Nurse Midwives in routine and acute appointments for adult clients and babies
Greet clients in waiting area and complete rooming tasks as their appointment begins, verifying client identifiers as appropriate
Measure blood pressure, temperature, heart rate, and weight accurately and safely
Alerting CNM in timely manner for vital signs outside of normal range
Place client on fetal monitor for non-stress tests to be monitored by CNM
Perform point of care testing for urine, blood glucose, and hemoglobin
Complete venipuncture and prepare blood and urine specimens to send to external lab
Cleaning and sanitizing medical equipment per protocol
Client Record Maintenance:
Document vital signs and other clinical information in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) for clients
Scan and upload clinical documents to EMR and other online portals
Review clinic schedule ahead of upcoming clinic days to plan for upcoming scheduled shifts
Review clinic schedule at end of each day to ensure all tasks were completed and documented
Facility Care:
Keep work station and clinic rooms neat, clean, and tidy
Perform quality control testing for point of care tests
Assist Outreach & Education Coordinator in classroom set-up
Assist with birth center laundry
Restocking clinic nutrition area
Emptying clinic trash cans if too full for sanitary use prior to scheduled cleaning days
Processing full sharps containers into biohazard and taking instruments to basement for sterilizing
Alert Office Manager of any needed maintenance
Additional Accountabilities:
Participates in monthly staff meetings, drills / in-service on 1st Friday of each month or as scheduled
Other duties as assigned
Work Schedule:
Mirrors clinic schedule including additional time allotted for preparing for shift and ending clinic day. Schedule start times may fluctuate as the clinic needs change
An example of our current schedule would be:
Monday 8:30am-5:30pm
Tuesday 10:30am - 7:30pm
Wednesday 10:30am - 7:30pm
Thursday 8:30am-5:30pm
Salary and Benefits:
Hourly rate of $15-$20 per hour depending on experience level, paid biweekly
Expected work hours of 32-36 hours per week depending on client volumes
PTO/Sick time accrued at 4.62 hours per worked pay period, totaling 3 weeks PTO per calendar year
